Audition Video Guidelines

Play 8 bars of time in the following styles: swing at 120bpm, swing at 240bpm, funk, and a Latin style of your choice such as bossa nova, samba, mambo, or songo. Keep solid time and comp with the snare and bass drum if you wish; use minimal fills, if any. Additionally, trade 4 bars of time and 4 bars of solo in a moderate tempo swing style totaling no more than 32 bars. Optional: add any other playing that you feel positively showcases your jazz playing.

Time: Do not exceed 5 minutes

Application

Being able to play amazing music that I don't often get the chance to play and being able to play with so many amazing young musicians.

I absolutely loved my quartet and the evening activities!

I am so grateful for all the love and support from the faculty and I learned so much!

I got the opportunity to perform at the student solo recital. This was a great learning opportunity and my favorite performance experience to date.

I got to meet friends and people with similar interests and passions.

I loved being in the Philharmonic Orchestra with the amazing conductor, friends, and fun and difficult pieces.

Meeting other musicians from across the US was so cool and made me excited to come to BYU.

Meeting so many new people. Everyone I met was so kind and that was my favorite part.

My favorite part is just getting to make wonderful music with amazing people who care so much about music. Specifically being in the Philharmonic and just the energy and sound you can create with my friends.

Philharmonic and ukulele class, I learned so much and solidified my decision to a music major.
